"And though she be but little, she is fierce"...

Sometimes you see someone wearing something that makes your head turn. Not because it's glaringly obvious or brash, but because it just catches your eye and is subtlety a bit clever. Now I know I pretty much say big is best in most of my posts, but I'm a big fan of subtle when done right, and this is what I mean...

Distraction

Its frigging cold. When the weather's like this all I want to do is hermit at home in big baggy clothes, only getting up from the couch to eat. The mirror soon reminds me though that all those nights in with take outs and several bottles of wine weren't such a good idea and I really struggle with what to wear for leaving the house. Between tucking my muffin top into my jeans and contouring the shit out of my face to attempt to hide my prosthetic-like double chins, I always reach for the jewellery cabinet for help.

January means big. Big arms, big arse, big jewellery. I might look a bugger, but I feel better when I've got something heavy, bright or bonkers on me and I'm pretty sure I'm not the only one.

Stealing Summer

We often have Indian Summers here in the North East. September sees much brighter and warmer weather than August and it reminds me that although Summer may technically be over, we can still make the most of the light nights, single layers and our (fake or otherwise) bronzed skin!

My GOD, how good do silver and gold look on tanned skin...take me back to the beach.

Yes please Ringly!

So, I've stumbled across something and I can't decide whether it's total bonkers or absolute genius...but i'm swaying towards the latter. People, meet Ringly.

Yep, there it is. "Wearable technology". You can connect to your phone THROUGH A RING. And get this, the ring in question doesn't look like it's just come out of a kinder egg, the designs are actually really rather hot. I would wear them even if they weren't tiny technological geniuses. Which they are, so double bonus!

Ringly connects to your phone and sends you customized notifications through vibration and light - both of which you can customise with four vibration patterns and five colours. The Fall ring collection (below) is crafted with 18K matte gold 3 micron plating using precious and semi-precious stones.

Prices are $145/£85. Whaddya think? I love them all, here they are:

'Into the Woods' with emerald

'Daydream' with rainbow moonstone

'Stargaze' with Black Onyx

'Wine Bar' with pink sapphire

Let me tell you about Dear Rae...

Cape Town's Dear Rae has got to be my favourite brand of the moment - although I hate to say I don't actually own any of their pieces yet! SOON, promise.

The pieces are made in gold, silver, brass and copper, with the occasional gemstone and are designed to be worn everyday. As their website says, "they celebrate the beauty and ease of simplicity and translate into functional jewellery."

I could buy everything in the collection to be honest, which you can do here: http://dearrae.co.za/

If you're lucky enough to be able to visit the store though, go for it. From the photos on their Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/DearRaeJewellery/) it looks like it would be an absolute treat of a shopping trip.

The photos posted below are all from their Facebook page, as I thought they showcased the pieces a bit better, but have a look on their website and see for yourself!

9021Oh

Net-a-porter recently ran a story on 90s fashion, heralding a “time of cropped sweaters, high-waisted jeans and logo tees. Supermodels were celebrities. Kurt and Courtney the reigning king and queen and mixed tapes played Biggie and Bone Thugz ‘n’ Harmony.”

Now 29, I was a nineties teenager. I loved TLC’s music and style (before it was blatantly ripped off, badly may I add, by the terrible girl band All Saints), thought me buying Crossroads by Bone Thugz on single meant I really had my finger in the pulse of urban hip hop (before it was ruined by ‘I want to punch every last one of you in the face’ Blazin’ Squad) and I actually thought Jason Priestley and Shannen Doherty were the ultimate couple (before that was ruined by, well, Shannen Doherty being a mentalist)…sensing a theme? I still don’t really understand the goings on with Biggie and Tupac but I’m pretty sure that cropped sweaters, in any decade, are wrong. Makes me think…If I could go back and give my 14 year old self a good shake, what would I tell her? 1. Stop it with the centre parting bob, it’s not a good look on many people, and barely anyone over the age of six.  2. Belly button piercings do not make you cool, or older. They just pull attention to your ‘puppy' fat. 3. ‘Puppy' fat at 14years old = ‘a mars bar a day too many’ – puberty is a bitch and you can’t escape it, just stop eating so damn much. 4. AJ from the Backstreet Boys really is a bad choice. Stop fancying him. 5. Armlets are a no no for you – refer back to #2. I could go on...

The 90s were marvellous, here’s an ode to that decade with some modern pieces…but the question is: would you still team these pieces with high waisted jeans??
