Festively Drunk

I'm spending Christmas day with the in-laws this year, and if it's anything like last time it'll be a lovely combination of delicious grub, good banter, alcohol flowing and lots of laughter. Jeez, reading that back we sound like a modern day Brady Bunch. What I should add to that is that the lovely boyfriend will eat so much he'll have to unbutton his pants around 3pm (or even worse, change into his 'house suit': grey trackies and grey sweatshirt combo. Sex), we'll play some type of board game where by LB and his sister will end up so embriolled in competition with eachother, most likely end up with LB rubbing himself with Monolopoly money chanting 'I'M THE KING' - irrespective of whether we're playing Monopoloy or not, and i'll spend most of the day giggling with the mother in law, remarking at how scarily similar we are - except for the fact that i can drink ALOT more wine than her...queue more giggling...and inapproprate swearing.

So, to make sure i look as best as i can at the start of the day in order to overlay any memories of me by the end (house suit LB in tow), here are some festively fabulous earrings to sparkle this Chistmas Day...

All wrapped up and only one way to go...

The weather girl told me this morning that it was going to be a high (a HIGH) of 4 degrees this week. WHAT. If i wasn't a greedy pig i would have thrown my porridge at the tv screen.  Living in the North of England has it's benefits, but Jesus i regularly wish i lived elsewhere. We live on the beach which is marvellous. Marvellous in the Summer but equally fab on a freezing day like today when you can get all wrapped up and go for a stroll on the sand.

It can be difficult to feel particularly feminine though when you're covered head to toe: uggs, jeans, jumper, down jacket, hat scarf and gloves. What I need on a day like today is subtle accessories to just glean through the layers...

Avengers, Assemble!

So, I've been daring the shops to buy my Christmas presents - despite buying most of them online, for some reason I just couldn't resist putting myself through a visit to the highstreet. When I arrived back home, my ever suffering boyfriend thought i'd been mugged, or at least in a fight. What happens to people in December? Where do these maniacs shop the rest of the year? Moreover, where do they live?! Note to self, never visit. Why do people walk twice as slow in December only? WHY DO PEOPLE INSIST ON STANDING IN DOORWAYS?!

After a large glass of vino, and an hour of my lovely boyfriend pretending to sympathise whilst actually ignoring me and serepticiously turning the volume up on the golf every two minutes until before i know it, someone who sounds bizarrly like my impression of my Dad is booming so loud it sounds like the voice of God, is in my living room. I am infinately more angry so pretend I haven't noticed and JUST SHOUT LOUDER. Win.

Prepare yourselves ladies. Sure, wrap up warm but more importantly - arm yourselves!!

Jasper! Daaaarling!

Jasper is one of my favourite stones. So many variations of it mean that it's not only versatile but that if you invest in statement piece, you'll be sure to wear it with just about everything. Don't get me wrong, google Jasper jewellery and 80% of the results may be rather old fashioned, twee, twin set and pearls types. In fact, when trying to decide on a name for this blog, i was toying with something around Jasper, but then decided that it sounded too much like either a posh private school boy or the toyboy lover of some super rich divorcé. Plus it's the name of my in-laws' cat. Not very sexy. Unsuprisingly, I sacked it off. BUT, i do want to show you that Jasper itself can be pretty sexy and how fabulous the contemporary pieces out there are. Here are some of my faves...

Best of British

The world seems to have imploaded over One Direction. I dunno if you've heard their new single, Little Things, but by god, it's a management genius stroke. Getting the hotest boyband on earth to sing about how much they love you 'squeezing into your jeans' and the 'crinkles by your eyes' (what teenage girl has eye wrinkles?!) is a sure fire way to get those boys some ass. As if they weren't getting enough. Bravo boys, bravo.

Although i'm not a 1D fan - i'm 29 - I am proud to be British. Here's some marvellous British designers rocking my world right now....

9021Oh

Net-a-porter recently ran a story on 90s fashion, heralding a “time of cropped sweaters, high-waisted jeans and logo tees. Supermodels were celebrities. Kurt and Courtney the reigning king and queen and mixed tapes played Biggie and Bone Thugz ‘n’ Harmony.”

Now 29, I was a nineties teenager. I loved TLC’s music and style (before it was blatantly ripped off, badly may I add, by the terrible girl band All Saints), thought me buying Crossroads by Bone Thugz on single meant I really had my finger in the pulse of urban hip hop (before it was ruined by ‘I want to punch every last one of you in the face’ Blazin’ Squad) and I actually thought Jason Priestley and Shannen Doherty were the ultimate couple (before that was ruined by, well, Shannen Doherty being a mentalist)…sensing a theme? I still don’t really understand the goings on with Biggie and Tupac but I’m pretty sure that cropped sweaters, in any decade, are wrong. Makes me think…If I could go back and give my 14 year old self a good shake, what would I tell her? 1. Stop it with the centre parting bob, it’s not a good look on many people, and barely anyone over the age of six.  2. Belly button piercings do not make you cool, or older. They just pull attention to your ‘puppy' fat. 3. ‘Puppy' fat at 14years old = ‘a mars bar a day too many’ – puberty is a bitch and you can’t escape it, just stop eating so damn much. 4. AJ from the Backstreet Boys really is a bad choice. Stop fancying him. 5. Armlets are a no no for you – refer back to #2. I could go on...

The 90s were marvellous, here’s an ode to that decade with some modern pieces…but the question is: would you still team these pieces with high waisted jeans??
